| ボブ・シューメイカー作・ブーツジャック |
1990年代、West Coast Shoe Company（WESCO）の三代目社長ボブ・シューメイカーが現役を引退後、自宅のガレージにて趣味で作り始めたのがきっかけとなったブーツジャック。
長きに渡り、ウエスコブーツとともに人生を共にしたからこそ生まれたデザイン性・実用性に優れたブーツジャックは独特なフォルムやカーブ、完全なるハンドメイドだからこその丸みを帯びたエッジ部分はブーツにも優しく、「容易に脱ぐことができる」と使いやすさが評判となり、一時はウエスコ社のカタログにも掲載されるなど商品化された時代もありました。
しかし、当時高齢だったボブ・シューメイカーはハンドメイドで製作できる数に限りがあり、現代では"幻のブーツジャック"となりました。

However, Bob Shoemaker, who was old at the time, was limited in the number of handmade boots he could make, and in modern times they became the "phantom bootjacks."

そんな背景を持つブーツジャックが
この度、日本の家具職人が丹精込めて製作した新デザインのブーツジャック、"Wesco Boots Jack"として各所アップデートされた姿で新たに誕生しました。
2024年、WESCO JAPAN創立20周年という節目を迎えるにあたって、長い間姿を消していたボブ・シューメイカー発案のブーツジャックを「現代に蘇らせたい」というWESCO JAPANの想いを形にして頂いたのは、日本のみならず海外にも多くのファンを持つ「TRUCK FURNITURE」。
ボブ・シューメイカーから託されたブーツジャックのデザインを元に、TRUCK FURNITUREが家具職人ならではのアレンジを加えて現代へ蘇らせた逸品です。

| 使用風景 |
使い方は、片足をブーツジャックの後部に重心を掛けて置き、ブーツを先端に引っ掛けて脚を引き抜きます。動作はたったこれだけです。
つま先と踵(コバ部分)の2箇所がしっかり押さえられるので重心がブレること無く安定した状態で楽にブーツを脱ぐことができます。使用後は玄関や壁などに飾っても様になるデザインです。

今回製作に用いたのは、主にテーブルやテレビボード、ソファや椅子など幅広い家具に用いられることの多い「ナラ材」を使用しています。
樹齢500年以上と言われるほど非常に高い生命力を持つ大木で、その長い年月を耐え凌ぐ力を持っていることから耐久性・耐水性に大変優れた材木です。
また、ナラ材はその模様もきれいでひとつひとつがまさに唯一無二。

ゲタ部分の固定にはナラ材独特の模様と風合いにマッチするブラス製のビスを採用しています。ビス留めもオリジナルのブーツジャックにはない、"Wesco Boots Jack"のためにアップデートされたディテールです。

そして、ゲタ部分にはジャパンメイドクオリティーを証明する、TRUCK FURNITUREのシリアルナンバープレートが打ち込まれます。

さらに、ブーツジャックの裏面にはWESCOロゴと同じく、ひとつひとつにシリアルナンバーが焼印されるため、まさにオンリーワンのブーツジャックとなります。

つま先部分を引っ掛けるという動作がある以上、繰り返し行うことでどうしても気になるのが永くご愛用頂くために必要な耐久性と強度面。
そこで生まれた家具職人のひと手間。それは木目を変えて嵌め込み式にするということ。
木目を変えたことでブーツジャックとしての強度が格段に上がり、互いが互いを支え合うことでより強固なものに仕上がりました。
